We use common brown onions, which have a stronger flavor than their white and red cousins. They are low in calories and fats; 100 grams of onion contain 40 calories with the benefit of being a rich source of chromium, Vitamin C and Vitamin B-6 and antioxidant flavonoid quercetin.
